Is it worth choosing a UAE beach hotel with little greenery, and what to do all day if the beach closes early?

TL;DR
Many beachfront hotels in the UAE (unlike Fujairah, which has mountains and greenery) are surrounded mostly by desert/urban landscape with no parks — fill the day with excursions around the emirates, especially in December when it's cool enough for sightseeing; check in advance if a liquor store is nearby.
Before a September trip, check current reviews for the specific hotel — one traveler had their February stay ruined at the Sheraton, so conditions can vary a lot by season and property.
December is considered a good month for a bed & breakfast + dinner stay: it's not too hot, so it's convenient to take day trips around different emirates instead of spending the whole day at the beach.
At some UAE beach hotels the beach closes as early as 7pm and there's almost no greenery nearby (unlike Fujairah, which has mountains and vegetation) — it's worth checking in advance what to do with the rest of the day and whether a liquor store is nearby.
