Are mosquitoes a problem in Nha Trang? Do I need insect repellent?

At Doc Let (Zoklet) beach near Nha Trang, travelers on a four-day stay in July 2026 noticed mosquitoes toward evening, but, in their words, fewer than back home.

Similar observations in July 2026: one traveler had seen neither mosquitoes nor tomcats since the start of the month, despite buying sprays, plug-in repellents and even a mosquito net in advance. Another traveler saw no mosquitoes over two nights and no bugs in the room; one more family met only two mosquitoes during their trip — in a taxi.

A contrary report: in late June 2026 a participant wrote that there are many mosquitoes in Nha Trang — in hotel rooms and outdoors, especially in open-air cafes and restaurants — and advised applying repellent spray in advance.

A traveler on their second day in Nha Trang in June 2026 wrote that they had not seen a single mosquito or even a fly in the evening, and in their view there was no point in bringing mosquito repellent.

Someone who had lived in Nha Trang for seven months wrote in June 2026 that they had seen about two or three mosquitoes, though there may be more if you live near standing water. They also passed on a view they had heard that imported plug-in repellents do not work on local mosquitoes and local ones are better.

Besides mosquitoes, the same resident said Nha Trang has other unpleasant insects — ants and tomcats. They caught about three tomcats in their apartment; after contact with one on the collarbone they only noticed the mark the next day, and an acquaintance got a mark on her arm at the beach. In their words, this happens fairly rarely. In August 2026 another participant wrote that quite a few people had been affected by tomcats.
