TL;DR
Grilled and boiled shrimp are widely available at cafes and markets throughout Nha Trang. Half a kilo of grilled shrimp costs roughly 200–250k VND.
At the night market last year, a bucket of about 12 cooked shrimp cost roughly 300 RUB; prices vary by location.
Before buying takeaway shrimp, check your hotel rules: some hotels do not allow guests to bring them into rooms. A restriction like this was posted at Virgo Hotel.
Cheap seafood (shrimp, mussels, scallops, oysters) is sold everywhere — look for cafes with fish tanks at the entrance: Lai Seafood, Local, Cilantro, Tuans, Lumia. Crabs, langoustines, and octopus cost more but are still inexpensive by comparison.
At a cafe called Cheap-Cheap (near Cafe Moskva and Nemo) a plate of shrimp with fries costs around 95k VND — among the lowest prices in the area. Fish with rice runs 90–100k, and pho bo just 35k.
What's sold as 'lobster' in Vietnam is actually spiny lobster (no claws), and local preparation can be hit or miss. A kilogram of medium-sized shrimp is a better bet — tastier and more reliably cooked.
