TL;DR
The Central beach (Bai Truong area) is often overcrowded with trash washing up in the mornings; the east and southeast coasts had garbage accumulation issues in winter. Bai Dai Beach (15 km) is partly rocky with coral in spots, but the sea is calm there in December.
Near Bai Dai Beach there's almost no infrastructure — just empty lots, with the nearest food options at Grand World, reachable only by golf cart. This lack of development is why the beach stays quiet and uncrowded; along the shore you can find a wild stretch and a beach by a semi-abandoned hotel.
Bai Dai Beach (15 km) is rocky and has coral in some spots, making swimming tricky, but the sea is calm there in December. Not the whole beach is covered in rocks — walk along the shore to find cleaner stretches.
The Central beach (Bai Truong area) is compared to an overcrowded resort strip — packed with people lying shoulder to shoulder. After weekends, mornings bring piles of trash in the water and on the sand that don't get cleaned up. Vietnamese vendors constantly walk around selling corn and snacks, and it's noisy. Not ideal if you want a quiet, clean beach.
During a January trip, trash accumulation was specifically a problem on the east and southeast coast beaches of the island.
