Which snorkeling pontoon in Dahab has the best reef — the wooden one or the plastic one?

Beyond the buoys, swimming straight out and a bit deeper, there are several beautiful reefs with a variety of fish — an extra snorkeling spot beyond the pontoons themselves.

Another visitor disagreed on fish quantity near the wooden pontoon, saying the plastic pontoon actually has more fish and more shaded sunbeds. To get a shaded sunbed at the wooden pontoon, you need to arrive by 8:00 AM. The bar is indeed closer at the wooden pontoon. Tip: spend the first couple of days trying both beaches to decide which suits you.

The plastic pontoon area was preferred: the reef looks better there and the water isn't murky, unlike near the wooden pontoon.

The reef near the wooden pontoon extends further out, but has fewer fish. Closer to the wooden pontoon itself there's more fish, plus a bar, sunbeds and a nicer beach.

Fish can even be found in the lagoon: about 20 meters from shore opposite Dahab Lagoon Club and Resort there's a coral patch with fish. Other spots along the coast have even more fish — just bring a snorkeling mask.
