Do you need a local SIM card in Egypt or is hotel WiFi enough?

TL;DR

Hotel WiFi is usually sufficient if you're not calling taxis. For mobile internet, a SIM card at the airport costs around $10.

Over a two-week stay, hotel WiFi worked reliably throughout the property. One disconnection was resolved by simply re-entering the connection credentials.

If the in-room router is slow or unreliable, disconnect it and use the hotel's main network instead. Alternatively, a SIM card at the airport for around $10 solves all connectivity issues.

Two weeks in Egypt without a local SIM was no problem. A local card is mainly useful for calling taxis via apps — for everything else, hotel WiFi is sufficient.
