How much does a taxi cost from hotel to Soho Square or Old Market in Sharm el-Sheikh?

A recent traveller reports negotiating a taxi to the Old Market for $1. Agree the fare before starting the ride.

Near the Old Market you don't need to hail a taxi via app — every car is essentially a taxi and drivers will approach you. Negotiate hard; the maximum fair price from the Old Market back to the hotel is $7. If they won't lower it, just keep walking — they usually chase after you with a better offer.

Getting a ride is easy — shared minibuses stop right on the road; just tell them your hotel name and ask the price. A ride from the metro area to the hotel cost $1 per person.

A ride into town for three people cost 100 EGP, paid right as they stepped out of the car. On the return trip the driver initially agreed to the same 100 EGP, but when payment wasn't handed over exactly at the exit, he demanded an extra 50 EGP. Locals reportedly pay less — drivers try to overcharge tourists.

The poster prefers to walk, but a street taxi from the hotel costs $1–2. A transfer booked through the hotel is pricier — around $5 — but gets a nicer car with a driver in a white shirt (a company called White Shark). For example, a ride from Beach Albatros hotel to Dana (farther than Senzo) cost $5.

Taxis may not be allowed onto the hotel grounds, so walk out through the gates and call a car via an app. Before getting in, check the vehicle’s make and colour against the app; hotel-arranged taxis can cost 3–4 times more.

You can flag a shared minibus right on the road at the hotel entrance — costs 10–15 Egyptian pounds per person, about a 15-minute ride. A taxi goes to the same place but costs more.

Walk to the highway (2–3 minutes from the hotel) and catch a taxi back to the hotel for $3–4.

One option is to take a taxi at the first barrier by the hotel exit rather than from drivers waiting on the main road; the round trip cost $8.

Taxi to the Old Market should cost no more than $3 or 150 Egyptian pounds. Agree on the price before getting in. You can flag one down right outside the hotel's main entrance.

InDrive may not work over the hotel Wi-Fi — consider buying a local e-SIM in advance. Rides to and from Soho Square cost 200 Egyptian pounds at a fixed price.

The hotel reception can arrange a taxi for $7 round trip with waiting time included. The nearest market is about 2 km away, roughly a 3-minute ride. The driver may also help as an interpreter.

Shared minibuses (marshrutkas) are another cheap option: exit the hotel, cross the road, and flag one down. Two adults and a child rode for $1 total. Some drivers ask $1 per person — that's considered overpriced; negotiate and walk away if they won't budge.

InDrive (iDrive) picks up only at the main hotel entrance. Book the return trip through the app too — it's cheaper. Pay in Egyptian pounds with exact change, and only get into the car matching the plate number in the app. If the driver acts up, say 'I call tourist police' (number is around 126).

To the Old Market via InDrive costs around $2, to Naama Bay around $4. Always negotiate. Taxis right outside the hotel charge much more — walk to the main road instead.

To the Old Market, app-based taxi costs about $2, while street taxis charge around $3. The Old Market is best visited in the evening — it's atmospheric.
