TL;DR
Reports suggest that some Egyptian hotel minibars now contain only water, although cola and Sprite were previously provided in some properties. A small housekeeping tip—around US$1 or an Alyonka chocolate bar—sometimes resulted in extra drinks, but it is not guaranteed.
The most recent report says that room minibars may be replenished with water only; cola and Sprite that were supplied in December in previous years may no longer be standard.
Hotel-bar supplies were also reported to be inconsistent: imported canned beer, some advertised imported spirits and ice cream could be unavailable even if they had been offered before.
One practical approach is leaving housekeeping about US$1. In one report, this led to beer, tonic or soft drinks being added to the in-room fridge.
Another report says that an Alyonka chocolate bar or US$1 tip resulted in a 1-litre bottle of cola in the minibar. When no tip was left, only water was supplied and housekeeping quality seemed lower.
