Can you bring water and drinks through security to the departure gate at Hurghada Airport?

There are recent reports of even larger amounts of water getting through the final security check: one couple said they had no problems over several years bringing as much as 5 liters between two people. Another recent case also got through with three 0.5 L bottles in one backpack and a separate unopened bottle of water.

The rule is inconsistently enforced: at the final security check before the departure lounge, some drinks were confiscated but others were allowed through. There's a chance you'll get through with something, but no guarantee.

It's entirely up to the individual security officer. In one instance, passengers were told to discard water before the checkpoint — many did, but those who kept their bottles passed through without issue.

In a previous season, three water bottles were confiscated at security. Water is available inside the departure zone for around 59 EGP per bottle — it's worth keeping some cash on hand in case your drinks are taken.
