Is it better to take a shared transfer or taxi from Hurghada airport to hotel?

Even a private transfer booked through the tour operator can turn into a long, error-prone ride: picked up among the first, but drove around for about 2 hours, with a driver who seemed inexperienced, took wrong turns several times and reversed on hotel grounds, ending up dropped off at the airport last.

One case of a failed pre-booked private transfer: arrival was confirmed in advance, but no driver with a sign was waiting outside the airport. After contacting the tour rep, they were promised a cash refund in an envelope at hotel reception, but ended up riding the shared group bus instead.

A well-known private transfer provider in the chat, referred to as Boris, was booked for a trip to Soma Bay with advance confirmation. No driver showed up on arrival; the tour agent suggested waiting for a taxi while the guide pushed them toward the shared bus. After 15–20 minutes they reached the provider directly via Telegram, who said he'd arrive in another 30 minutes — despite it already being 40 minutes since landing. They ended up taking a different taxi and overpaying.

The order of stops on shared group transfers isn't fixed: the same hotel might be first on one trip and not on another, and it's not always last when dropping off for the return to the airport. Additionally, the bus sometimes makes a stop at a shop en route, which extends the trip.

Some hotels (e.g., Baron) provide their own free transfer: a driver with a name sign meets you at the airport, walks you to the bus, helps with luggage, and drives you to the hotel — smooth and hassle-free.

If you plan to rely on the airport transfer, it’s worth setting up an eSIM or other mobile internet in advance: you may need a connection immediately on arrival because some passengers are missing from the transfer lists, and then you have to order a taxi yourself.

A taxi from Hurghada airport cost $20 and arrived at the hotel by 12:15 — significantly faster than the shared tour operator transfer, which involves waiting and multiple drop-offs.

Tour operator transfers may not have your name on the list — always confirm in advance. If you're the last stop on the shared route, the wait can be long. Taking a private taxi is simpler and faster.

Booking your own transfer instead of relying on the tour operator's option proved to be the right call. Note that pre-selected seats on the flight may also be lost if booking changes occur — worth checking before departure.
