TL;DR
Most Sharm el-Sheikh beaches are coral reefs requiring pontoon entry. Hotels with true sandy beach access are rare and worth researching specifically before booking.
According to guest experience, hotels with sandy beaches in Sharm el-Sheikh do exist, but almost always come with trade-offs: run-down beach condition, second-row location, poor food, outdated rooms, tiny beach area, dead reef, pontoons stretching up to 900 metres, or beach access only via a scheduled shuttle bus. A hotel's star rating doesn't guarantee beach quality.
One guest reported freely walking the entire length of the beach to Ras Gamila bay and back without ever being stopped by staff, even using a beach shower along the way — a potentially useful way to reach neighbouring beaches with better sea entry.
The beach at Grand Oasis hotel gets mixed reviews and is described as mediocre. The beach at Conti hotel is better, if you manage to grab sun loungers.
At Faraana Heights hotel (distinct from the regular Faraana) there is a large sandy beach with a gradual sandy sea entry and some waves. It's the last hotel in Sharm el-Sheikh, backed by mountains and a nature reserve.
At the 'relax beach', sand starts only at knee-deep water; from the shore you have to walk over dead coral to reach it.
A guest at Faraana hotel reports a sandy sea entry with warm, clear water — better, in their view, than pricier hotels they'd stayed at before.
The beach at El Fanar hotel is described as very poor ('trash'); for a good beach, Sensatori or Baron hotels are recommended instead.
Sharm el-Maya bay is described as a calm, enclosed, very gently sloping sandy bay with the warmest water in Sharm el-Sheikh — even in early September the water there is hot rather than cold (unlike the Sea Beach area in Nabq, where a strong current makes the water feel cold).
At Naama Bay Hotel & Resort the beach entry is sandy but shallow — knee-deep water.
At Stella hotel (first/second line, shared beach) there's essentially no direct shore entry — at high tide it's only knee-deep. To reach open sea you must walk along the hotel's pier, which has two staircases: one roughly midway leads into a sheltered natural 'pool' between shore and reef (uneven depth, sometimes deep), the other at the pier's end leads straight into open sea with fish and reefs on both sides.
Regarding Jolie Ville beach: the entry is beautiful but shallow — roughly similar depth to Aladdin beach; low tide occurred only once during a two-week stay.
At the hotel's own beach, kids can play in the sand and splash in shallow water, but for an actual sandy-entry swim you need to walk a bit further left of the main beach to a 'wild' (undeveloped) stretch with proper sea access.
El Fanar paid beach is reachable on foot by turning right out of the hotel. Best visited in the morning — by midday the tide goes out and swimming further out risks scraping against the reef.
The 'Sindbad' sandy beach is described as poor quality — not really worth visiting for swimming.
Just 10 metres from one hotel with pontoon entry, a neighbouring hotel offers a good sandy sea entry. It is worth checking with adjacent hotels about beach access.
Guests staying near the Concord area who find pontoon entry inconvenient are advised to consider the beaches at Sunrise or Mamluk hotels as alternatives with more comfortable sea access.
Guests staying at Parrotel Aqua Park (Nabq area) who want a sandy sea entry can head to the beach near Basata café nearby. Naama Bay public beach is reachable by taxi; entry costs around 50 EGP, the sea entry is sandy and gently sloping with almost no reef. El Fanar / Del Mar beach is about 30 minutes away by taxi (~$6 taxi, ~$4 entry) and offers a good reef with calm water.
In Naama Bay, the best sandy sea entry is at the Jaz Fairouz hotel. Only a handful of hotels in the middle of the bay offer this.
Sharm el-Maya bay has a wide choice of hotels with sandy beaches, suitable for families with children. Sun loungers on the first beach fill up by 8 a.m.; the second beach has more availability but very shallow water. For proper swimming, visitors go to the nearby Jolie Ville hotel beach.
Some hotels in the Nabq or Sharm el-Maya areas have lagoon-style beaches with gentler entry. However, these may not have open sea access — just a sheltered lagoon. Always confirm this detail before booking.
When hotels in Sharm el-Sheikh advertise a 'sandy beach', it usually refers to the beach area itself, not the water entry. Due to coral reefs, almost all resorts use pontoons for sea access.
For non-swimmers or those uncomfortable with pontoon entry, look for hotels with sea-facing pools or lagoon-style beaches. A few hotels in Naama Bay have gentler entry, but this is the exception rather than the rule.
