TL;DR
Hotel beaches at Baron and Sunny Beach resorts tend to disappoint — crowded, shallow, or littered. Prioritize hotels with good pools instead.
At Sultan, the beachfront area felt cramped right by the water, while the higher sections were uncomfortable; it may not be the best choice for relaxed swimming.
At Rotana, there are still fish, but the reef appears noticeably grayer and less lively than in 2023. For snorkeling, it is worth seeking areas with better-preserved coral.
In Naama Bay, the beaches are great and the sea is clearer — recommended hotels are Jaz Fayrouz and Maritim Jolieville.
Serenity has been finished for a while now; guests are being relocated there from Flow. They get a separate but fairly small section of the beach — the beach area is noticeably reduced.
Montemaro is praised for its beach and overall grounds, making it a good option specifically for the beach area, although food, service, and entertainment are rated poorly.
Sunrise's beach area is rocky, guests swim from a pontoon, and the sun loungers are wooden — the beach zone is unimpressive.
There is very little space for swimming at the beach itself, but this is easily remedied by the neighbouring beaches on either side.
The beach at Baron resort felt extremely overcrowded — too many people in a small space, making swimming uncomfortable.
Sunny Beach has two beach options: a closed lagoon with no fish or coral (fine for kids only), and a netted beach where trash accumulates at the barrier. The open sea area is shallow, and deeper water is occupied by yacht moorings. The resort's real strengths are food quality and cleanliness — not the beach.
A small or underwhelming hotel beach is often offset by a wide selection of pools — a common trade-off at many Egyptian resorts where beach space is limited.
