Can you take medications out of Sharm el-Sheikh airport when flying home?

In a report dated 10 October 2026, a traveller said they had repeatedly taken two packs of a medication containing pseudoephedrine out of Egypt in hand luggage, without concealing them, and encountered no problems. Rules change — confirm with an official source before you travel.

In one traveller’s report, Russian border control did not ask for a prescription for two packs of Amigrane ADCO; the traveller had kept the pharmacy receipt.

A traveller departing Sharm el-Sheikh with a large travel medicine kit was sent for a separate baggage inspection, where all medications were checked. If carrying many medicines, be prepared for additional screening.

According to a traveller’s report, Egyptian departure customs generally do not require receipts for medicines. The medications can be placed in checked baggage; keep the receipt in case Russian customs asks to verify the purchase value, although no questions were encountered in practice.

There is a pharmacy within walking distance of hotels in the area, easily found via maps apps. Russian-speaking staff available, medicines sold at the price printed on the box, payment in Egyptian pounds.

The situation is unpredictable: after a wave of strict checks, enforcement eases and travelers pass without issues, then checks resume. It is not safe to count on a 'quiet' period.

Beyond Egyptian restrictions, certain medications are officially banned for import into the traveler's home country. Even if Egyptian customs lets you through, border control on arrival may confiscate the medicine. Check the legal status of specific drugs before travelling.
