Is a day trip to White Island (Tiran) from Sharm el-Sheikh worth it — what to expect?

TL;DR
It's a full-day trip with notable downsides: long waits in port, crowded anchorage at the reef and White Island, and heavy boat traffic. Turtles are present but more abundant at Abu Dabbab.
From around 10–11 AM, the bay fills with dozens of double-decker yachts and motorboats ferrying tourists back and forth. The feeling is more like swimming in a harbour than a natural bay, and the reef is noticeably bleached and underwhelming as a result.
Swimming in open water near White Island carries real risk due to constant motorboat traffic. One traveller narrowly avoided being hit by a passing boat while snorkelling. The reef itself is prettier there, but the danger is significant.
The excursion takes a full day. A notable chunk of time is spent waiting in port for departure clearance. All boats stop at the same reef, then at White Island where passengers swim ashore. Make sure to remember your yacht's name to board the correct vessel on return.
