How does visa on arrival and passport control work at Bali airport?

Whether accommodation bookings are checked at Bali airport on arrival is unclear. Officially it may be required, but in practice most travelers are not asked for it.

On a direct flight to Bali: after deplaning, head straight to the visa payment counter — $32 per person. Enter your email and the system pulls up your All Indonesia form. You can pay with $100 and receive change in rupiah.

After paying for the visa, proceed to passport control. Everyone is directed to automated gates, but if your passport is not biometric, you'll be escorted to a human officer who checks your passport, ticket, and takes a webcam photo. Queues are minimal on direct flights.

After passport control there's one more checkpoint: scanning the QR code from your All Indonesia form. The entire process from deplaning to exiting the airport took about 15–20 minutes.

Fill out the All Indonesia e-form at least one day before departure. There's a field for your phone's IMEI — you can mark 'yes'. The form is straightforward and minor errors are not critical.

Indonesian authorities tightened visa enforcement in 2025–2026, but it's applied selectively. At tourist sites like Uluwatu Temple, staff may ask about your visa status and can help you pay on the spot if needed. Airport staff don't actively chase down tourists.
