Which area of Ubud, Bali is best to stay in?

If you won't rent a scooter, pick a villa in central Ubud — otherwise you'll be stuck eating at the hotel or constantly taking taxis to restaurants and back.

Use Google Maps as a guide: accommodation within a 10-minute walk of Ubud Palace is considered conveniently central.

Prefer areas north of the main road — near Monkey Forest, monkeys frequently climb onto villas and grab anything left out on the terrace.

If you don't want to stay strictly downtown, any area with at least a few cafes nearby works fine — it doesn't have to be the very center.

Staying central mainly matters for walking around and evening cafe/restaurant trips; if you're out on day tours and eating along the way daily, proximity to the center matters less.

For quiet and privacy, choose a villa further out — among rice fields or with a jungle view — but ideally no more than a 10-minute taxi ride from central Ubud.
