TL;DR
In practice, baggage is usually checked through to the final destination and boarding passes for both flights are issued at once — no need to reclaim or recheck.
At departure with online check-in and no checked luggage, no one asked for anything extra — the boarding pass was printed without a queue and passengers went straight to the gate. No one asked about carry-on either.
In one case the operating airline changed from Etihad to Seychelles Airlines (due to a flight time change) — nothing had to be updated or re-entered, everything went smoothly.
Despite Trip.com stating that baggage must be reclaimed and rechecked due to the first leg being operated by Seychelles Airlines, in practice this was not required — luggage was checked through to the final destination and boarding passes for both flights were issued at check-in.
On a recent flight, carry-on luggage was not checked at all, and there was no request to recheck bags. Travelers were using backpacks rather than suitcases, which may have been a factor.
A previous experience flying from Abu Dhabi showed that when a Seychelles Airlines itinerary explicitly states 'baggage recheck required', the situation may differ — it is worth confirming at the check-in desk in advance.
