Weligama and Hiriketiya on the south/southwest coast start coming into season in November. However, November weather can still be unsettled, with more reliable conditions usually arriving later.

The east coast is in season roughly from May to September. The south and southwest are officially in season November–April, but in practice the season there really starts in late November to early December and runs through April.
East: May–September; South/SW: practically late Nov–April
On the west coast, high season starts in December — if travel dates are flexible, it's better to shift the trip there to December.
West coast — high season from December
Conventionally, October and November are considered the rainiest months across the whole island, regardless of region.

December is not the season for Trincomalee — that's when the south and southwest are in high season. Galle and Ella are good picks in December, but Trincomalee is not.

Late December and early January are great for Mirissa, Weligama, and Unawatuna, plus day trips to the central highlands. Arugam Bay is also viable during this period.
