Best time to dive and snorkel in Hikkaduwa (season and ocean conditions)

Hikkaduwa has dive spots, but ocean conditions vary day to day. The diving season opens in winter when the monsoon shifts.

Shore snorkeling is possible year-round, as long as the waves aren't too rough.

Even in the off-season (late July), the ocean can be pleasant: nice breeze, with rain and bad weather fairly rare.

Waves at this time are normal for the open ocean — don't compare it to calm inland seas or lakes.
