Can you check in early at Antalya hotels and how to get a room upgrade?

One report describes an aggressive upselling tactic: a couple flagged by the tour agency as newlyweds were shown a basement with two mattresses on the floor and told this was their assigned room — reassignment to a proper room required an extra payment. The guests paid rather than argue.

Guests were checked into a family room with a connecting door, where a small sofa was provided instead of a bed. Reception initially refused to reassign rooms, citing hotel overbooking. After about 3 hours of insisting, the guests finally received the two separate paid rooms they had originally booked. As an apology, the hotel gave 4 complimentary spa visits (spa entry is otherwise paid and pricey).

On arrival the room initially had a single bed, but the next day it was swapped free of charge for a room with two beds, since two women were sharing.

A family was first offered a very small standard room, too tiny even for suitcases. After returning to the reception desk, another standard room 'suddenly appeared' for $100 — a normal-sized room matching hotel reviews. The guest suspects this is a deliberate upselling scheme.

After being placed in a poor room at check-in, the guests inspected several available rooms themselves the next morning and asked to be moved — they were relocated free of charge to a nice Junior room with 2 bedrooms (for a family of 4), no extra payment required.

A small tip at reception can help with a better room: sweets plus $10 placed in the passport resulted in a room above the spa in the side building, with a pool view and partial sea view. According to the report, this room was larger than those in the semicircular building.

If the hotel tries to relocate you elsewhere because of overbooking, it may help to refuse and say you will call the tour operator. In the reported case, after insisting on staying, the guests were given a room in the hotel for one night and then moved to another room the next morning without issues.

On arrival, it was possible to switch from a standard room to a sea-view room for an extra $90.

Even if reception initially says the hotel is full and early check-in is not possible, a family with children may still be offered whatever room is available on the spot instead of waiting in the lobby.
