TL;DR
Generally safe, but use the in-room safe or a locked suitcase. Hotel safes cost around 800–1000 Turkish lira to rent.
Another traveler left phones and headphones unattended in the room, once even forgot to lock the safe — nothing was taken. The only thing that disappeared was a dollar bill left visibly on the bed.
A complaint about theft directly from the hotel safe: $200 went missing from a wallet stored inside the safe (only $40 of the stolen amount was spent). Reception claimed such incidents never happen and that this was the first such complaint.
One traveler reported a theft of a small amount — a few dollars and euro coins — from unlocked suitcases left in the room. The locked suitcase was not opened, though its combination lock was broken. Lesson: lock all your bags, not just the one with money, and consider putting a smaller bag inside a larger one with an extra padlock.
Some travelers skip the hotel safe, finding it unconvincing, and instead store valuables in a hard-sided suitcase with a combination lock — this approach also works.
Another traveler left cash and a phone in an unattended backpack in the room without any issues. In-room safe rental costs approximately 800–1000 Turkish lira.
