How do you pay for public transport (dolmuş/minibus, bus, transfers) in Bodrum – card or cash?

Based on 3 discussions with 6 participants · Last activity: 27 days ago

TL;DR

Most dolmuş minibuses and buses in Bodrum accept contactless payment with a foreign Visa/Mastercard on the validator, though not every vehicle has a reader yet — ask the driver. Rechargeable transit cards (similar to Istanbulkart) are also sold locally. Transfers booked via GetTransfer are card-only online, no cash accepted.

What the community said

Bodrum sells rechargeable transit cards — you top them up with lira and use them for dolmuş or bus rides instead of tapping a bank card each time.

You can pay directly on the dolmuş or bus by tapping a contactless bank card on the validator near the entrance, just like regular contactless payment.

If you don't have a foreign bank card to buy tickets on the AJet airline website, ask someone with a Turkish card to pay, or use a third-party booking service that accepts international cards.

Transfers booked through GetTransfer must be paid by card online at the time of booking — cash payment on arrival is not accepted.

The fare for a dolmuş minibus ride is the same whether you pay by contactless card or cash — there's no separate card tariff.

A regular plastic bank card works for paying dolmuş fares — the terminals accept contactless Visa/Mastercard, so a dedicated transit card isn't strictly required.
