TL;DR
Bodrum's streets are narrow, so park at one of the many paid parking lots — finding a spot is usually easy; roads are mostly paved but can have potholes, traffic jams, and local drivers who ignore lane markings and overtake blindly.
Without a car, the easiest way to get a taxi is via Google Maps: search “taxi” to see the nearest stands — call that one or walk there (other companies won't come for a pickup call). Make sure the driver turns on the meter.
Popular sights typically have parking at both the upper and lower entrances. Roads are paved except when entering small villages. The terrain is hilly, and local drivers often ignore turn signals and lane markings, with blind overtaking common — drive carefully.
Within Bodrum itself, there are occasional potholes and heavy traffic. However, paid parking lots are plentiful everywhere, so finding a spot is usually not a problem.
To avoid walking along the highway, go through the village toward Beldibi instead — there are sidewalks and shops along that route, making it safer and more convenient.
The streets in central Bodrum are very narrow, so don't try to squeeze into curbside spots — use paid parking lots instead, which are available almost everywhere in town.
