On bus tours arriving early (around 3am), operators typically push paid add-ons: a balloon viewpoint tour, jeep safari, or a hot air balloon flight. You can decline all of these and simply walk to a free viewpoint yourself to watch the balloons.

If you don't want to spend the whole day riding a hot bus, be selective about which excursions are actually worth taking rather than agreeing to the full package — some stops can be skipped without missing much.

At the hotel, a local guide meets the group each morning, announces a meeting time, offers paid add-on excursions, and stamps your tour voucher. You're not required to buy any of these excursions — you can decline. The same guide often also offers currency exchange.
