In Cappadocia, is it better to book a Red/Green day tour or see the main sights independently if you only have one day?

If you want to cover Cappadocia’s main sights in just one day, the easiest option is a day tour, usually the Red Tour. Many travelers pair it with a hot-air balloon flight in the morning, or, if arriving later in the day, do a sunset horse ride or ATV tour.

If you do not need a guide and are comfortable walking in the heat, you can skip both the Red and Green tours and build your own route. From Göreme, you can walk to Uçhisar Castle and the Göreme Open-Air Museum, then take a bus to Kaymaklı or Derinkuyu underground city.

Some sights are easier to split by activity type: many travelers feel Paşabağ is enough to appreciate from above during a balloon flight, while the valleys are better explored separately, for example on a horse tour. This gives you more flexibility than a group excursion.

If you do not want to deal with transport between spread-out sights, booking a tour or at least a transfer is the simplest solution. But for half a day, you can skip transport entirely and just walk the valleys around Göreme and visit the Open-Air Museum.
