TL;DR
For a fever above 38°C combined with gastrointestinal symptoms, contact the hotel nurse or seek hospital care promptly; in one reported case, IV electrolytes and medical assessment were needed. Sorbents, Enterol and paracetamol only provided temporary relief.
On the fifth day of a holiday, a traveler developed stomach cramps, nausea, chills and a fever above 38°C. After contacting the hotel nurse, she was sent to hospital for an IV treatment including paracetamol, antibiotics and electrolytes.
If a fever returns within a few hours of taking a fever reducer, do not rely solely on a travel first-aid kit. In this case, paracetamol lowered the temperature only briefly, and recovery took several days at the hotel and continued after the trip.
For gastrointestinal symptoms accompanied by a high fever, the traveler initially tried sorbents and Enterol without significant improvement. A practical approach is to monitor temperature, keep hydrated and seek medical care without delay if symptoms worsen.
