TL;DR
You can find shade on Da Nang beach under the palm trees between the promenade and the shoreline (a bit away from the water), or closer to the hotels in the late afternoon — building shadows start appearing around 4-4:30pm, though it's less crowded before that.
Palm trees line the strip between the promenade and the beach — you can sit under them, but it's a bit removed from the actual shoreline, not right at the water's edge.
Near the hotels, building shadows start falling on the sand around 4:24pm — at that time there are roughly half as many people as before lunch, when there's no shade at all but the beach is more crowded.
The sea entrance at this beach is gentle with good sand quality — worth factoring in when picking a spot, even if it's a bit farther from the water under the palms.
The most picture-perfect beach conditions (calm turquoise water etc.) only last a couple of days and aren't guaranteed — don't count on catching that exact view when planning your visit around shade or scenery.
