TL;DR
Early September in Da Nang is often still warm enough for beach time, but rain, stronger surf and stormy conditions become more likely from mid- to late September. Nha Trang is often a more reliable beach alternative later in the month, but check the short-term forecast before booking.
Da Nang can work for a 12–31 September trip, but it is a transition into the wetter season: the first half can still bring sunny spells, while late September has a higher chance of heavy showers and rougher water. If daily beach swimming is the priority, keep Nha Trang as a flexible alternative.
For 15–30 September, do not expect non-stop rain, but a consistently dry beach break is not guaranteed. Showers are often intense and brief; however, if surf is up or lifeguards issue warnings, postpone swimming at My Khe Beach.
In early September, the sea in Da Nang can still be calm, but your hotel area does not determine wave conditions: An Thuong and My Khe face the same open coastline. Stay near My Khe for convenience, then use beach flags and the daily surf forecast to decide whether to swim.
Late September is less reliable for swimming in Da Nang than early September because the risk of wind, surf and tropical weather systems rises. Nha Trang often has a better beach-weather window in September, although it still requires a current forecast before travel.
