Best time of year for warm, calm sea in Nha Trang?

One April report describes the sea as clear and turquoise. When waves pick up, they stir up sand, making the water look less clear.

In a recent month-long observation from Nha Trang, there were no waves severe enough to prevent entering the sea, and the water stayed warm even after rain.

A recent August report says the sea in Nha Trang was warm and wave-free in the early morning; they swam roughly from 6:00 to 9:00 a.m. There was intense heat and no rain for a month.

For June–July trips, the sea in Nha Trang was described as comfortable even for someone sensitive to cold. Water at Hon Tam was slightly cooler than at the central beach, while Bai Dai was notably warm.

One traveler reported that in February the first couple of days were hot and swimmable, but then waves and wind picked up — impossible to enter the sea, uncomfortable on the beach (everything blown around). Had to travel south on excursions to swim; pools were also freezing cold during this period.

According to one review, March marks the start of the dry, favorable season in Nha Trang: water warms to around +26°C, rain almost stops, and waves become moderate (strong storms subside). If the city beach is still stormy, nearby islands offer cleaner, calmer water.

Personal experience: the last week of February through early March in Cam Ranh was ideal — not too hot, no rain, waves present but moderate and pleasant for swimming.

Travelers warn that from September to March, Nha Trang/Cam Ranh can see strong waves, heavy rains, and occasionally typhoons/tsunamis — this period should be avoided, with November singled out as a particularly bad month for the sea.

General tip: open-sea beaches (like the central beach) often have waves, while beaches in enclosed bays tend to be calmer — if calm water matters, look for bay beaches rather than open coastline.

One traveler compared Nha Trang to a trip to Sanya (Hainan Island): in late July-early August the sea there was warm, no jellyfish, rain only once. They're heading to Nha Trang to compare.

In summer there are noticeable waves along the coast, especially near Diamond Bay — swimming is uncomfortable unless you go further from shore. In winter this spot is calmer.

According to one traveler's observation, the sea in spring (March) was more enjoyable — warmer water and a calm surface, almost no waves or current, like a river.
