Can you bring fruits from Vietnam on a plane back home?

With VietJet Air, fruit must be included in the total allowance under the ticket fare: it can go in checked baggage or carry-on. In economy class, the combined carry-on limit is 5 kg, so fruit and other belongings together must not exceed 5 kg.

According to participants, Azur Air does not allow fruit to be carried in a basket — it must be packed in a bag, pouch, or box, and the weight is strictly counted within the checked baggage and/or carry-on allowance (unlike Aeroflot, which often lets it through as extra).

Participants note that while the official limit is 5 kg of fruit per person, in practice Russian customs rarely checks actual weight. One traveler brought 14 kg of fruit from Thailand (9 kg in a basket, rest in backpack and luggage), and another brought two boxes of 7 kg and 6.5 kg from China, with no issues either time.

According to discussion participants, if fruit on Aeroflot exceeds the allowed baggage/carry-on limits, the rough excess charge is about €20 per extra kilogram. As a practical tip, they suggest packing fruit in a bag rather than a basket, which may make it more likely to pass without issues.

According to a tour guide at arrival, a 5 kg fruit basket does not count toward either the checked baggage or carry-on allowance — it is carried in addition to both. So with 10 kg checked and 10 kg carry-on, the basket is on top of that.

Watermelons, coconuts, and durian are not allowed. Everything else can be transported within the permitted weight and volume limits.

Nordwind Airlines (Severny Veter): according to a tour guide, fruit is allowed in carry-on luggage, with a limit of 5 kg.

Flew Aeroflot in April: 10 kg carry-on split as 5 kg backpack plus 5 kg fruit basket. The fruit sellers pack the basket themselves — just tell them the weight (5 kg) and your preferences. No issues all the way to Sheremetyevo.

According to an Anex Tour guide, only VietJet Air officially allows a fruit basket as carry-on: 5 kg of fruit plus 2 kg of personal items within the carry-on allowance.

Flew with Pegasus Airlines carrying around 7 kg of fruit in a basket — no one weighed or checked it. Checked baggage was 21.1 kg (1.1 kg over the limit) and that was also ignored.

Carry-on allowance is 7 kg; up to 5 kg of fruit per person is permitted, packed in a basket or bag. Mango, avocado, and passion fruit were brought through without issues. Supermarket receipts are available but customs did not check them.

Flying Aeroflot with a 10 kg carry-on allowance makes it easy to bring fruit. Russia officially allows up to 5 kg of fruit per person to be imported.
