How can I get better seats at airport check-in when flying out of Nha Trang without paying for seat selection?

TL;DR

Without pre-booking, available seats are assigned on the day of departure, so arrive when check-in opens and ask the agent for a better option. Seats sold as paid selections usually remain unavailable for free until late in check-in.

What the community said

Passengers who arrive when check-in opens have the best chance of being assigned from the remaining unallocated seats. Seats offered by the airline as paid selections are generally not given away for free.

Check-in opening time

If two or three travelers are on the same booking, the system will often seat them together automatically. Checking in early lets you ask the agent whether a better seating arrangement is still available.

Same booking

Allow extra time for both the check-in/bag-drop queue and passport control, as waits depend on how many flights depart at once. Priority service can significantly reduce the time spent in line.
