Is ice safe to drink in cafes and restaurants in Nha Trang?

Based on participants' experience in June–July 2026, they regularly ordered iced drinks in cafes — in coffee and smoothies — with no health issues. One of them thinks problems more often come from people eating everything indiscriminately than from the ice. Another felt the risk is higher with drinks from mobile street carts. This is personal experience, not a guarantee: if your stomach is sensitive, some caution makes sense.

Some participants had specific doubts about ice served with beer: one wrote it was the only ice they were wary of and called beer on ice poor form. In July 2026 another participant noted that smoothies can be ordered without ice — in their view they are more often made without it anyway. If you'd rather not take the risk, ask for your drink without ice.

A participant explained in June 2026 that there are two kinds of ice in Vietnam: drinking ice, which according to them passes inspections, and separate ice used to chill seafood, alcohol and other goods. The latter is only for cooling and is not meant to go into drinks.

Another participant described in June 2026 how drinking ice is delivered: loose in polypropylene sacks on motorbike trailers, and it may be frozen from tap water. The same person added that over time the anxiety fades and most people start drinking iced drinks without much worry.
