To rent and legally ride a motorbike in Vietnam, you need a Vietnamese national driving licence and an International Driving Permit with motorcycle category A/A1. A car licence, even with an IDP, does not cover motorbikes. Without the required category, choose a scooter up to 50cc or an e-scooter limited to 50 km/h; riding a larger bike can lead to a substantial fine and impoundment.
