TL;DR
The central beach is cleaned daily and is the cleanest option. Hon Tam island has crystal-clear water. Costabella beach has a lot of trash and murky water due to fine sand.
On 3 August, several visitors reported the sea near central Nha Trang looked very bad: lots of trash, a rainbow-colored oily sheen, and foam on the water surface. Some speculated it could be from a ship or waste discharge near Vinpearl.
A report from the morning of 10 August noted the central beach was very dirty, while the northern part of Nha Trang's beach was noticeably cleaner than the center. Zoclet beach also had trash both on the shore and in the water.
Recent reports indicate that conditions on the central beach can change very quickly: on 26 July there was no litter near the Lotus landmark or Louisiana, but by the following morning visitors reported an exceptionally large amount of debris both on the shore and in the sea.
On 5 July, the central beach near the Lotus landmark reportedly worsened sharply: a lot of trash washed in and there was an oily film on the water. At the same time, farther to the right when facing the sea, around the sunbed area, conditions were noticeably cleaner: the shore had been cleaned and there was very little floating trash.
A newer negative report appeared for Hon Tam beach: around midday, visitors complained about a large amount of trash, especially after the morning period when cleaning no longer seemed effective. This contradicts earlier reports of consistently clean water and suggests conditions on Hon Tam can also deteriorate.
The southern part of Nha Trang's beach can be extremely dirty with trash and seaweed, making swimming impossible. It gets cleaner toward the center. Locals say the pollution depends on current direction and can change within a few hours.
Zoclet beach is currently dirty with strong tidal activity. It is a long trip from the city center.
Nha Trang's central beach is cleaned daily. Even after a fireworks event that left a lot of trash on the shore, by 2 PM the next day it was completely clean.
The beach near Gold Coast was littered with trash after a fireworks event in the evening, but was cleaned up by midday the following day.
Hon Tam island offers excellent swimming conditions: clear, clean water with no trash or seaweed. The only minor issue is plankton that can cause a slight stinging sensation.
Costabella beach has a significant litter problem. The water is murkier than the central beach because the fine sand gets easily stirred up.
One of Nha Trang's beaches had a very narrow swimming zone due to closely placed buoys, with significant trash and seaweed both in the water and on the shore.
