Are there a lot of mosquitoes in Phu Quoc compared to Thai islands?

A frequent visitor to Vietnam and Cambodia says she's never been bitten there, but in Thailand she always ends up covered in itchy fluid-filled welts that take a long time to heal — oddly her husband and son are unaffected. Heading to Phu Quoc, she's hoping for the same low-bite experience as elsewhere in Vietnam.

Someone currently on Phu Quoc reports mosquitoes are barely an issue — just a couple of bites total. For comparison, on Thai islands their arms and legs were completely covered in bites.

A traveler who just flew from Thai islands to Phu Quoc says the difference is night and day — mosquitoes were relentless in Thailand but barely noticeable here.
