Where to exchange currency in Hurghada?

Pounds can be exchanged at the neighboring hotel's ATM, or at a bank branch (though it's far away). Large supermarkets only accept Egyptian pounds, not dollars.

If exchanging dollars at the hotel ATM doesn't work, try the Soho area: on the left side behind the fountain there's a bank, with many ATMs on the street nearby.

The hotel itself has ATMs that exchange dollars for Egyptian pounds. Also, across from the reception there's a building with shops — at the very end of it you can break large banknotes into 100-denomination bills.

Dollars can be exchanged at ATMs in central Hurghada (Hurghada City Centre), at the hotel reception, or at a pharmacy. In City Centre, the recommended spot is the green ATM to the right of Carrefour. ATMs near the escalator are less reliable — they may take the dollars without dispensing pounds; if an ATM has already rejected/spat out dollars once, don't insert them again as it may keep the money without completing the exchange. Near the Sheraton area, any ATM or bank branch works for exchange, but the bank branch will take a copy of your passport.

If your hotel is outside central Hurghada, in a suburb or nearby settlement, exchange options are more limited: usually only exchange-enabled ATMs are available there, while central Hurghada also has exchange offices and bank branches.

A specific exchange point mentioned near the large Fix Price: if you leave the hotel and walk right for about 1.5 km, after CASINO there is a bank with two indoor ATMs that can exchange currency. There are also two ATMs inside Fix Price, but they often do not work, so the bank across the road is considered more reliable. Going in the morning is recommended because it is less crowded.

Currency can be exchanged at exchange offices around the city, at bank branches (before reaching the hotel, passport required), and at Senzo Mall shopping centre.

Banknotes without any writing or stamps on them are accepted at exchange offices, banks, visa payment points, and ATMs without issues.
