TL;DR
For live coral and a more distinctive reef, snorkellers favour the left side of the Remal pier, although this section is reportedly being filled with sand and gravel. Sharm Club Beach has less colourful coral but offers frequent marine-life sightings.
The reef at Sharm Club Beach is said to be less colourful than Sunrise, but it can still be rewarding for snorkelling: sightings over a 15-day stay included a turtle, rays, moray eels, a manta ray, octopus, lionfish and a large Napoleon wrasse.
At Remal, snorkelling around the yacht area can be very good when boats are absent, with plenty of fish. However, this section is considered less spectacular than the reef to the left of the pier.
The most distinctive part of the Remal reef is reportedly left of the pier, toward Pickalbatros and Baron, where live coral has been found. However, the adjacent five-star beach and this reef section are reportedly being filled with sand and gravel bags, so conditions may deteriorate quickly.
