TL;DR

Istanbul Airport (IST) has Turkcell, Vodafone and Türk Telekom counters right in the arrivals area, so you can buy a SIM immediately on landing, though it's pricier than in the city. A tourist Turkcell physical SIM currently costs around 850–1000 TRY for a 10–20GB package; an eSIM (Turkcell eSIM, Airalo, Holafly) is an easy alternative you can activate before your flight.

For those asking about eSIM options in Istanbul: a local Turkcell eSIM or international apps like Airalo/Holafly with a 10-15GB package cost around $15-20, and can be activated online before you even land — no need to visit a store.

If you don't have a SIM and can't get one from someone leaving the country, the easiest fix is to visit an official Turkcell or Vodafone store in the city (e.g. in Taksim or Şişli) — they'll set up a tourist plan with a data package in 15-20 minutes, just bring your passport.

Answering whether you can buy a SIM right at Istanbul Airport — yes, Turkcell, Vodafone and Türk Telekom counters are located in the arrivals area of the new IST airport and operate 24/7, though prices there run about 200-300 TRY higher than in the city.

For newcomers urgently searching for a SIM in group chats — instead of relying on someone giving theirs away, it's simpler to just walk into any mobile operator store in a mall or on the main street of your neighborhood; they'll set up a tourist package instantly with your passport.

Regarding current physical Turkcell SIM pricing: the tourist plan with roughly 10GB of data and calling minutes runs about 850-900 TRY, and can be set up on the spot with your passport.
