TL;DR
Mosquitoes exist in Da Nang but are relatively few and generally harmless. Repellent is not essential but can be handy.
Small, very fast mosquitoes bite even on high floors (30th floor mentioned) — they're hard to notice or kill, and bites barely swell. Plug-in fumigators barely help; only repellent applied to skin works, and only briefly. Larger mosquitoes also exist but fly slowly and are easy to kill.
As of July, Da Nang is in dengue fever season, so mosquito protection is a must: a good repellent, long-sleeve clothing in the evenings, and mosquito nets. A plug-in fumigator at home can also help.
There are very few flying insects in the city, and those that do appear are mostly harmless. If one gets into your room, just leave it alone — it will find its way out on its own.
The most 'dangerous' creatures in Da Nang are ordinary mosquitoes, and even those are rare. There is no serious insect threat in the city.
Many travelers wonder about mosquitoes and other insects in Da Nang. Locals report the situation is calm — repellent is not a must-have, though it's worth packing if you're visiting during rainy season or planning trips into nature.
