For a day trip to Hoi An, departing Da Nang around 3 PM is ideal — you'll arrive in time for sunset and the famous evening lantern atmosphere in the Ancient Town, then return to Da Nang at night (40–50 min drive).

Hoi An's Ancient Town is quite touristy — souvenir shops and crowds dominate. Half a day is enough to see the highlights; a second visit is rarely worth it.

Evening lantern boat rides in Hoi An are doable on a day trip from Da Nang — just don't head back too early. Late-night return to Da Nang is straightforward.

If you want to explore Hoi An properly, consider staying there separately for 3–4 days. Use Da Nang as a base for other activities: Lady Buddha statue, beaches, and city walks.
