Should I get a travel card for Vietnam or can I pay with QR codes and foreign cards?

TL;DR
Card payments are not universally accepted in Vietnam, and foreign QR payment apps may not work. A dedicated travel card can help, but cash remains the most reliable option.
The question of using a travel card in Vietnam is valid: not all terminals accept foreign cards, and Russian QR payment apps like Sber are not supported — local merchants use Vietnamese QR systems (VietQR), not international ones.
Inserting a card into a terminal works at larger shops, hotels, and restaurants, but small cafes, markets, and street vendors often don't have terminals at all. Always carry Vietnamese dong in cash.
A Vietcombank card can only be obtained in person at a branch — online sign-up is not available for foreigners. Vietcombank branches are available in Nha Trang, including in the city centre.
