TL;DR
If you have a high fever or symptoms that won't go away, open an insurance claim right away — doctors will prescribe antibiotics and you'll feel better within a day; local pharmacies sell antibiotics and hormonal ointments without a prescription.
For allergic rash or bites, a hormonal ointment with antibiotic works well — sold over the counter at local pharmacies, cleared up within a couple of days.
Self-treating a 38.5°C (101°F) fever with regular over-the-counter fever reducers doesn't always work — no improvement after two days. After filing an insurance claim, a doctor prescribed antibiotics, and there was noticeable relief within 24 hours, with full recovery in about two days.
At a local hospital, if you go through insurance, they may give you an IV drip and send you home with antibiotics, fever reducers, and a hormonal medication (the last one is optional if not needed).
