Best time and area in Hurghada with warm sea and less wind?

Based on 2 discussions with 4 participants · Last activity: 4 days ago

TL;DR

The calmest, warmest sea is found in November and late January-early February in the sheltered Sahl Hasheesh bay (+27-30°F/82-86°F); in summer and around New Year, north Hurghada and the lower bay area often get strong winds.

For November, consider Makadi Bay: reports suggest it is usually less windy, and some hotels have attractive coral reefs. Choose a specific hotel based on recent reviews of the beach, water entry, and reef.

A 14-night stay from Nov 14-29 in Sahl Hasheesh turned out surprisingly warm — 81-86°F, even the local guide was surprised for that time of year. The sea was warm and calm, the bay is sheltered from wind, and tides are barely noticeable (water level shifts about 5-6.5 ft). Stayed at Piramisa hotel; previously only visited in September-October, but November turned out to be the best time.

Besides hotel prices, weather matters a lot: around New Year, the lower part of the bay (and the whole lower-bay area) often gets strong wind. Some hotels there are seasonal — comfortable only during certain months, not year-round.

A trip from January 24 to February 6 the previous year had almost no wind — just two or three windy days, otherwise warm with warm sea. Overall, a very positive experience.

In early August the sea is warm after summer, but winds can start picking up — when choosing a hotel, it's better to avoid north Hurghada, since it gets hit hard by wind there.
