Best time for swimming in Hurghada: which months have warmer sea temperatures and less wind?

In November, stays at the nearby Ali Baba and Mirage Bay hotels in different years had comfortable swimming conditions, with no strong wind reported.

In early September 2024, the sea was very warm and there was almost no wind until the end of the trip. On a more recent stay at Beach Albatros, the water also felt warm, but wind made getting in uncomfortable because of the sharp temperature contrast; conditions at Calimera were described as excellent.

Late May does not guarantee calm sea conditions: one recent report had sunny weather but very strong wind and large waves. For swimming, check the wind forecast for the exact dates as well as sea temperature.

From 18 to 29 November in Hurghada, the sea was comfortable for swimming. Noticeable wind occurred on only one day and was not a major issue; evenings were warm enough without a jacket.

Sea temperature can still be comfortable in December. At a beach sheltered by a rock formation, wind was noticeable around the grounds but not severe, and a short pier made water access easier.

In November, the more sheltered part of the bay by Serenity hotel was comfortable with little wind; it only became cooler in the evening, around 8 pm. Conditions can still vary substantially from year to year.

A recent late-September report describes strong winds and sea water that felt very cool. Travelers seeking reliably warm water should allow for variable conditions at the end of September.

From mid-December, the sea in Hurghada can still be warm enough for swimming, but strong wind may make getting out of the water uncomfortable. For children, have towels or a warm cover-up ready immediately.

At one Hurghada beach in February, windy weather made the sea uncomfortable for swimming, with most visitors only wading in. The entry was gradual, but unlike at some hotels there was no very long shallow stretch: the water became deep enough fairly quickly.

One traveler mentioned that even in April, when the Hurghada season hadn't really started yet and there was wind, swimming was still great. The only downside was the pier being closed until noon, but the lagoons and water park saved the day.

February at the Tropitel hotel is usually windy, though one traveler got lucky with 5 out of 9 days calm. Tip: to avoid the wind, choose a beach at the start of the bay.

In June at the Blue hotel, the air was pleasant but the sea was still cold. In early September (the previous year), the water in Hurghada was excellent.

One traveler visited Hurghada in early October 2025: there was almost no wind (only a bit on the last day) and swimming was fine all week, including riding waves on inflatable mats. They noted that weather in Hurghada is currently unpredictable both for sea temperature and wind — the same chat has reports of rough waves and sandy winds during the same period in other years, so it's a bit of a lottery.

A traveler staying in the Makadi Bay area of Hurghada reported that this area is known as windy and staff warned about a possible red flag, but over a full week in late July the red flag was never actually raised — swimming was unrestricted the whole time.

July can be comfortable for swimming: one traveler noted there was no strong wind and the water felt fine. However, if you swim from a pontoon, the overall experience also depends on the specific beach, not just the season.

If the sea is your main priority, season matters a lot: travelers who were fine with winter swimming in Sharm el-Sheikh still highlighted that cooler water is acceptable only if you expect it. In Hurghada, choosing the right month is especially important outside summer.

April is often considered a less reliable month for warm sea temperatures in Hurghada because the water may still feel cool after winter. If warm swimming water is a must, late spring, summer, or early autumn may be a better choice.

Autumn in Hurghada can be unpredictable: by early October the sea may already start cooling down and winds can pick up. But in some years November still feels very pleasant for swimming, so autumn conditions depend on the specific year.

Compared with other Red Sea resorts, some travelers describe Hurghada as noticeably windier. Even when the sea itself is fine, wind remains one of the main factors when choosing both the month and the hotel area.
