How windy is Hurghada and Makadi Bay in November–December, and should you choose a sheltered bay?

In late November and early December, the sea can be warm enough to swim without a wetsuit. However, isolated, non-consecutive storm days may occur, when swimming is not allowed.

Zahabia is reported as a good December option: one traveler could sunbathe and swim comfortably there while strong wind disrupted conditions at neighboring Sunny.

December reviews are mostly calm. Guests who stayed from December 15 to 27 swam in the sea and said the water was good; getting out was a bit chilly because of the wind, but only for a couple of minutes, and the sun warmed them quickly. The hotel's main pool, they said, was very cold, while the infinity pool was fine. Another traveler wrote in September 2026 that she loves Makadi in November and December: the sea is warm and they stay in the water until dark.

At Siva Golden Bay Makadi, a January visitor found the cliff-enclosed beach completely sheltered from wind, while the higher parts of the hotel were windy. For winter stays, beach-level protection matters more than conditions across the whole resort.

A traveler reports that the sea in Makadi was very warm and suitable for swimming both in the second half of November and from Catholic Christmas through New Year.

In August 2026 a traveler recalled spending almost all of November 2019 at this hotel, back when it was called Tia Heights, and noticing no low tides or reverse currents. They described an excellent beach, comfortable sea entry and good house reefs; they swam 5–6 hours a day and snorkeled along the whole coast. This is the experience of one season, and conditions may have changed since then.

In July 2026 a traveler who called herself an expert on sheltered bays wrote that she had stayed in such bays in December and February and found them genuinely comfortable, especially Ras Um Sid.

Winter weather varies from year to year. According to a participant in October 2026, the sea in Hurghada averages 21–23 degrees in winter — enough for some, but chilly for those used to 25 degrees. One traveler recalled one December being warm enough for shorts at night, while on another trip in November he sat outside in a down jacket at night. In August 2026 participants suggested looking for last November's reviews in the specific hotel's chat, keeping in mind that every year is different.

In July 2026 the same guest compared several bays and said that in her view the sea at the Radamis hotel is poor, although the reef is decent.

In Makadi Bay in early November, according to one guest, the cold wind hit on one day and the other days were calmer. Still, for the first few days she swam holding the rope because there can be a reverse current that may pull you out; on a couple of days it was calm enough to swim without it.

Not everyone finds November equally comfortable. A guest in Makadi Bay in early November said she got cold coming out of the water because of the chilly wind and often sat on the beach wrapped in a towel, although she admits she feels the cold easily. In October 2026 another participant advised going to Hurghada before November 15 for a comfortable holiday: after that, in their experience, there is cold wind, it gets dark early, evenings are cool, and they swam in wetsuits.

A traveler who goes every December wrote in July 2026 that only once did they have to stay in the room until 10 am because of an icy wind, after which it died down and the holiday went on as usual. Guests described something similar for January: there was wind, but not every day; mornings were cool and they did not swim until around 10, after which the sea or pool was fine.

Guests who had stayed at the hotel in November a few times said the wind varied in strength but the sea was always open. They like the hotel so much that the wind never spoiled their stay, but in July 2026 they suggested that people who are uncomfortable in wind should choose a more sheltered bay. The hotel itself, they said, is about a relaxed stay, no crowds, good service and the reef.
