Is the Hurghada Museum worth visiting, or better to go to Luxor/Cairo instead?

The museum fits easily into a day in town. In late August 2026 travelers combined the antiquities museum, the Coptic Church of St Shenouda in the Old Town and, on the way back, Senzo Mall in one day. The museum is on the second floor, with a large shopping centre on the ground floor. Inside, they said, it is pleasant: dim, cool and calm. They also singled out the Coptic church as very beautiful, with unusual icons.

Asked in August 2026 whether the museum only has replicas, a participant replied that it holds genuine artefacts, some of them from the Cairo Museum. It is fine for one visit, but in their view the new museum in Giza is the better option.

On going to Cairo: in September 2026 a participant wrote that a huge new museum has opened near the pyramids and is worth the trip, but better on a longer holiday — the trip from Hurghada takes two days with two nights on the road, so you will not get much sleep. Participants called Luxor far more interesting and impressive than the pyramids, though nothing matches the Cairo Museum for the scale of its collection.

One traveler recalled that the museum was part of a general sightseeing tour of Hurghada. Overall it was not bad, but the display is an unusual mix: one part has pyramid- and pharaoh-style sculptures, the other has cartoon characters.

What is inside: pharaoh statues, four mummies, sarcophagi and everyday objects, including items from Tutankhamun's tomb. In July and August 2026 participants suggested going if you have free time and do not have to travel far for it: the visit is quick, but it is nowhere near the scale of the Cairo Museum. If you have already been to Cairo, they said, the Hurghada museum will not impress you.
