Which Red Sea resorts in Egypt have an easy beach entry, and which ones are mainly pier-and-reef hotels?

There is good reef in the Hurghada area after all. In September 2026 a participant wrote that in Makadi you can wade about a kilometer through the shallows in the right direction and reach a live reef that, in his view, rivals the house reefs of Sharm El Sheikh hotels.

About Diamond, travelers added in late July 2026 that finding a free sunbed on the beach there is far easier than at the other hotel being discussed, while the reef is not great. They had not counted on the reef much anyway: in their words, that is typical for Hurghada.

At Albatros, according to guests in July 2026, swimming is heavily restricted: you are not allowed near the reef itself and may swim only in a fenced-off deep-water area. At other hotels, the participant said, you can swim in either direction as you like.

Of Park Regency, a traveler wrote in July 2026 that the sea entry is mediocre: at low tide the water is about waist-deep, then come the corals and only after them the deeper water. It suits guests who do not mind shallow water by the shore.

In July 2026 the Sunrise chain was praised for reef access from a good wooden pier, with about 10 meters of depth right at the end. The beach entry at Diamond, according to a participant, is slightly better than at Montemare, but even there the water is about waist-deep at high tide. Both hotels have water slides.

In July 2026 a participant compared neighboring hotels: Al Dau has a decent sea entry in places, but the lagoon at Dana Beach is deeper. He described Alcazar as a hotel with only a pier and a reef, and a weak reef at the end of the pier at that — so do not expect an easy entry from the beach there.
