TL;DR
Snorkelers at Sharks Bay and Savoy can still spot Napoleon wrasse, rays, moray eels, tuna, barracuda and pufferfish, although visitors report that coral conditions have declined. Use reef-safe sunscreen and avoid touching coral.
In late August, snorkelers at Sharks Bay reported abundant marine life: three Napoleon wrasse at once, daily Josephine rays and yellow rays, a large lionfish, a morning moray eel, and tuna toward evening. Barracuda, needlefish, pufferfish and emperor fish were also seen.
Large triggerfish were seen regularly on the reef during the day, including a territorial individual. They reportedly ignored swimmers, but it is still best to keep your distance and avoid approaching fish guarding a territory.
Travelers say coral reefs across Sharm El Sheikh are in poorer condition than in previous years, with fewer fish in some areas. Minimize your impact by never standing on coral, not feeding fish, and choosing reef-safe sunscreen.
