What is the food like at all-inclusive hotels in Bodrum, Turkey?

Based on 2 discussions with 4 participants · Last activity: 13 days ago

TL;DR

All-inclusive food at Bodrum hotels is hit or miss: plenty of salads, Turkish sweets, and fish, but quality beef and red fish are rare. The à la carte restaurant offers better options.

At a hotel with villa accommodations, breakfast is served both in the main restaurant and in the villa restaurant — red fish was always available at the villa breakfast. At lunchtime many food outlets operate: a beach restaurant, Side street stall, gozleme, waffles, pizzeria, patisserie, main restaurant and villa restaurant. Cherries and melon were consistently available at lunch, but only at the villas. On Wednesdays the main restaurant hosts a seafood dinner.

Comparison with other hotels: at Utopia World (visited in May) the only breakfast pastries were croissants and simit. At Crystal Prestige, the chicken and vegetables were nearly inedible.

At the hotel under discussion (contextually referred to as Duzha), the food isn't served in huge quantities, but everything is very tasty — nothing overly salty, spicy, or greasy. Desserts are consistently excellent, with several standout options always available.

The beach bar offers, besides drinks, fries, vegetables, chicken nuggets, chicken, burgers and soup; lunch options back at the main restaurant are nearly as limited, so some guests skip returning to the hotel and eat at this bar instead.

One guest was very impressed by the food variety: fried fish (seabass, dorado, trout), separately served salted red fish, raw and stewed vegetables, meat (beef, chicken), pizza, side dishes, cheeses and tasty pastries — calling it the largest spread they'd ever seen.

Basic staples are always available — eggs, chicken, rice, pasta, potatoes — so you won't go hungry. Fruit is plentiful: cherries, strawberries, peaches, nectarines. However, salads and side vegetables (cucumbers, greens) sometimes turn out sour or wilted, so parents should taste them first before giving to kids.

There's a separate food area called 'Avenue' near the beach, open almost all day: it serves desserts, pasta, tacos, burgers, fish (dorado, mackerel, small bream-type fish), spaghetti, macaroni, vegetables, salads, greens, various pizzas, freshly baked flatbread, and stew-like dishes. Fruits include watermelon, cherries, nectarines, red plums, and grapes.

The hotel occasionally holds national cuisine theme days, with Turkish Day standing out — an especially generous and tasty spread is prepared that day.

Nothing is served directly on the beach. There's a cafe by the pool offering pizza and flatbread, waffles and ice cream are available near the water slides, and desserts can be found in the lobby.

Desserts are monotonous — the same sponge cake cut and decorated differently with coloured margarine. The baklava was particularly off-putting. Drinks consist only of powder-mixed juices from dispensers (no carton juices) and instant coffee with powdered milk from the coffee machines.

Food is unpretentious but varied: good grilled dishes, quality pastries, fries and pasta for kids. Fruit selection is basic — cherries were spotted recently. The pool bar serves cocktails including imported spirits. The beach bar offers soft drinks and beer. The main restaurant also opens a bar at lunch and dinner. Bar snacks near the beach are a highlight.

One guest rates the food a solid 5 out of 5: meat and fish are very tasty, breakfasts are standard for Turkey. No berries available — no strawberries or cherries. Themed fish dinners are held on some evenings.

One guest was disappointed: on at least one lunch there was no meat of any kind. No themed dinners were observed — the menu is the same every day, plain and unremarkable. Soups are bland or an acquired taste. The restaurant is very crowded right at opening time.

Hotel Zena focuses on braised dishes — meat in clay pots and braised fish. Side dishes include zucchini, eggplant, rice, occasionally pasta or baked potato. Expect two grilled meat options plus a few trays of extras. No premium seafood or elaborate pastry-shop desserts — a typical budget 5-star spread.

At Armas Kaplan, chicken, beef, and fish are available daily; lamb cutlets appear every other day. A wide cheese selection is offered. Red fish was not seen at all during the stay.

At Amara hotel, food is varied — beef, fish, and chicken in different preparations are always available. Plenty of free tables at any meal, no queues.

The à la carte restaurant stands out with tasty salmon, fried calamari in batter, and melon. Shrimp are small, spreads are an acquired taste. The main draw is a beautiful sea view and quiet atmosphere. Watermelon is better fetched from the main buffet.

Breakfast lacks porridge, pancakes, or cottage cheese casseroles. Soups are Turkish-style only. Whole cuts of meat are rare — turkey appears occasionally, while beef and chicken come diced in mixed dishes. Desserts are average, but Turkish sweets and ice cream are good. Only local alcohol is available.
