Is it better to book a package tour or arrange flights, insurance and long-term housing independently for an extended stay in Nha Trang, Vietnam?

TL;DR
Booking independently gives more flexibility — for example, staying near Bai Dai beach instead of central Nha Trang and visiting the city just 1-2 times a week — but long-term rentals typically require a 3+ month contract with a deposit (often paid in USD) that's forfeited if you leave early.
A family of 4 organized the trip fully independently: originally planned to stay in Nha Trang, but after landing they stopped near Bai Dai beach for a couple of days and ended up staying there long-term — now visiting Nha Trang city just 1-2 times a week. The advantage of self-organizing is the freedom to change plans on the fly.
Long-term rental contracts are rarely shorter than 3 months. A deposit is required — it's recommended to pay it in USD for easier withdrawal later — but if you move out before the contract ends, the deposit is non-refundable per the agreement.
For short stays it's easier to book accommodation by the day — guesthouses, apartments, etc. — searching across multiple sources.
When renting housing and communicating with locals, a good video translator app for Vietnamese is essential to have.
It's worth gathering more info in advance and joining relevant Telegram groups: by city, country, housing rentals, scooter rentals, currency exchange, and SIM providers. This year they're planning to switch to eSIM instead of regular SIM cards.
